The first Call for Papers for Humanities Methods in Librarianship went out on Friday. For those of us who have been working on this project for the past year, this is a big milestone. It is, in fact, quite remarkable that we’ve made it this far. It is very easy to underestimate the amount of infrastructure-building (technical, social, emotional) that goes into creating a journal. But the CUNY team that started this, and the broader editorial committee that we’ve brought on board, have done a huge amount of work to get this project off the ground.

With this journal, we’re doing something unique: we’re creating a forum for humanistic approaches to librarianship and libraries. Such a venue has been decidedly — and rather inexplicably — missing from our profession. Many librarians are trained in the humanities, and have a lot of humanistic insights to offer to library scholarship. Unfortunately, they have also often had very few opportunities to do this. Humanities Methods in Librarianship seeks to remedy this elision.

I’d like to encourage you to submit a paper, a book review, or some creative work. We’ve happily reached the point in this journey where we turn the reins over to you. The infrastructure is mostly in place now; it’s your time to shine.
